Sports Calendar Sync

I started playing soccer at five and continued through varsity soccer in high school. It’s remained a big part of my life: I follow Manchester United and Los Angeles Football Club, and I love watching the sport more broadly. Sports Calendar Sync grew out of a practical need to keep track of when my teams are playing.

I built the app to bring those fixtures into my personal calendar, including match times, competitions, and broadcast information when available. It takes the same idea behind TV & Movie Calendar Sync—follow something you care about and keep up with its schedule—and applies it specifically to soccer.

Keeping up with the teams I follow

The experience starts with searching for a team and tapping to follow it. People can view upcoming fixtures, while calendar syncing brings those games into the place they already use to plan their time.

People can choose which supported competitions to follow for each club, bringing those fixtures into their calendar without entering every match by hand. Removing that manual work was the central benefit I wanted. I took an approach I’d seen in other apps and focused on making it simple enough to fit naturally into my own routine.

Adapting an existing foundation

Sports Calendar Sync grew out of my work on TV & Movie Calendar Sync. I reused much of the underlying logic for working with Apple’s calendar functionality, then adapted the experience from following titles to following teams.

Soccer also introduced different scheduling needs. A club can play in several competitions, and kickoff times or match status can change. The app updates existing calendar events when refreshed fixture data changes, including postponements and available broadcast details. Adapting the foundation meant accounting for those differences while keeping the familiar search, follow, and sync experience.

Continuing to learn through a live app

The project also extended my exploration of AI in development and app ownership. Alongside building the experience, I’ve been learning how to use AI to support build processes, deployment, and customer support.

These apps serve several purposes for me: they help me follow things I love, give me products to design and use myself, and create opportunities to learn what it takes to ship and maintain an app. Sports Calendar Sync carries that work forward through a new use case built on an existing foundation.
